The New York Mills Regional Cultural Center announces its December 2021 gallery exhibition: “Notes from New York Mills” by artist Brett Lysne.

This exhibition includes two bodies of work, “Notes from New York Mills”, created during Lysne’s artist residency at the Cultural Center’s Arts Retreat in 2014; and “North Dakota State Maps,” created between 2012 and 2014.

Lysne is a visual artist working in drawing, printmaking, artist books, and digital media, and teaches printmaking and drawing at Minnesota State University in Moorhead.

“Notes from New York Mills” is a series of ephemeral mixed media drawings superimposed on white ink silkscreen printed on beige paper.

The “North Dakota State Maps” were completed in the summer of 2012 and combined pen, graphite, and other drawing materials on paper to create linked text fields in the form of a state. Lysne wanted to return to: North Dakota.
