WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) – The Wausau Center for the Visual Arts (CVA) opened new exhibits in the new year. One of them is “Bold and Affirmative, Radiant and Subtle” in the Vault Gallery.
The new art exhibit features the art of Wisconsin artist, Debra Davis-Crabbe. There, his work invites people to immerse themselves in bold colors, textures and compositions.
Wausau’s CVA said Davis-Crabbe takes the energy of the moment and portrays it in colorful abstract paintings. The artist said “there’s a push and pull until she’s able to figure out what she wants to say in a room”. She said she is inspired by the world around her and wants her work to evoke emotions and capture a moment in time.
“His work is made up of abstract paintings, full of light, color and luminosity, and they contrast with the winter darkness that we currently see,” Executive Director of the Center for the Visual Arts, Madison Hager said.
CVA said this exhibit complements some of the other exhibits based on earthier tones. One of his pieces titled “A Change of Seasons” has splashes of warm colors alongside cool colors. “It features very vivid pinks and blues, and I see it as a very springtime spectacle, a fortune of spring to come,” Hager explained.
“You’re going to have the opportunity to look at the pieces and bring your own imagination and memories to the pieces, but Debra has also provided some really wonderful titles that speak to what she’s thinking when she’s creating the pieces.”
The exhibition will be there until March 5. Admission is free during regular hours Wednesday through Friday. from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sat. from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
