Artist Interview: Alyssa Imes | visual arts

Mixing and artist talk highlighting work from our ongoing immersive solo show located on the second floor of the FAC Art Center. Mixing starts at 5:00 p.m., artist talk at 6:00 p.m.

Currently on display is “Unstructured Rise” by Knoxville artist Alyssa Imes, through September 23.

The art installation features a variety of materials, including textiles and cast iron, which highlight Alyssa’s approach to creating a multimedia experience for her viewers. Imes’ work is about personal connections and social interactions that open new doors and create a web of emotional relationships. Imes’ goal is to raise awareness of growth after trauma. “Unstructured Rise” is a retrospective of Imes’ work as an artist.

Alyssa Imes grew up in Emmitsburg. She received her undergraduate degree from Shepherd University in 2018. She uses knitted fiber and common cast iron supports. She received her MFA from the University of Maryland in May 2022. She has a small cast iron oven. Currently his work has shifted from heavy iron work to light fiber work. Over the years of her artistic practice, she is always inspired by the connections she makes with people.
